Crowns are tooth-shaped restorations that cover the entire tooth to restore the shape, size, strength and/or appearance of the tooth.

One or more of the following situations may indicate the need for a crown:

• Large area of decay that has weakened the tooth
• Broken or cracked tooth
• Severely worn tooth

Crowns are also used to hold a dental bridge in place to cover a dental implant.
